What Does Unlimited Boot Camp Mean For You In 2010?

Unlimited Boot Camp means that you have the ability to achieve your fitness goals without having to worry about the affordability of a 12, 16 or 20 day package. It means that classes are now as low as $3.55 per class (when you attend all scheduled classes)! It means that you no longer have to dread going to the closet because you’re tired and unhappy with the way your clothes fit. It means that you no longer have to wish that you still looked like you did “way back when”. It means that you no longer have to feel disempowered by not knowing how to work out. It means that you no longer have to struggle with feeling bad about not exercising, but feeling unmotivated to drag yourself to another intimidating gym. It means that you no longer have to feel guilty and confused about eating the wrong things, not knowing what to eat, and when to eat it. Unlimited Boot Camp means the inspiration, guidance, motivation and freedom to change who you are into who you want to be…

Here are just a few ways you can take advantage of our new Unlimited Boot Camp program:

  • Make-up a missed class: If you accidentally set the alarm clock for 5:00 pm rather than 5:00 am, you can still attend a mid-morning class in NW, SW, or Central Austin… Or just sleep till noon and then attend our NW or SW 6:30 pm class!
  • Double-up on classes: If you want to drop a quick 10-12 lbs in January, you can attend our 5:30 am camp Monday - Thursday, head off to work, and then also attend our 6:30 pm class too!
  • Attend class 5 days/week: You can attend the 5:30 am boot camp Monday - Thursday at our NW, SW, Bee Caves/Lakeway, Round Rock, & Pflugerville camps and then attend the 5:30 am Central camp on Fridays (Central camps meet Tuesday - Friday; Central campers may attend the NW or SW 5:30 am camp on Mondays).
  • Enjoy a bonus 6th class each week: Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to our FREE 9:00 am workout each and every Saturday at our NW, SW, and Central locations!

Once again, you now have 56+ classes available to you for the same price as our old 12-day package… And Austin Adventure Boot Camp still brings you all the extras you’ve come to expect from Austin’s longest running and most awarded boot camp program: safe, proven, effective workouts; a friendly, motivating environment; individual customized nutrition plans & nutritional guidance; pre & post camp body composition and fitness assessments; guaranteed results; and… fitness, friendship and fun!

There are ten reasons that 90% of people fail in their New Year’s resolutions. Any one of them is enough to sabotage your success. However, identifying and removing these saboteurs as they happen can and help you stay on track.

  1. Not writing resolutions down on paper
  2. Procrastination
  3. Going it alone
  4. Not enough knowledge to map a plan
  5. Lack of focus
  6. Discouragement
  7. Inevitable obstacles
  8. Too vague
  9. Laziness
  10. Emphasis on negatives, not positives

You want to change your life and improve your health. So you joined Austin Adventure Boot Camp, which is a great step, and started a fitness program and healthy nutrition plan. Whether you're looking to drop a few pounds, eat more vegetables, or get in shape, you'll eventually want to share your goals with your friends and loved ones.

We know that talking to your friends and family about tough subjects can be uncomfortable, but they need to know what's going on in your life. And you might find out that they're very eager to help you reach your goals, too. But you'll never know how they'll react if you don't talk to them!

Here are some do's and don'ts about sharing your health and weight-loss goals with your support group:

  1. Don't be embarrassed or ashamed. The decision to eat better and exercise more is a smart one. You should be proud of yourself for deciding to change your life. Ignore your son if he tells you that you're "weird and gross" when you're sweaty after boot camp. Tell your husband to be quiet when he mocks you for eating broccoli instead of fries. Your family is going to make fun of you—in some households, it's practically their jobs. (Chances are, you tease them about some things, too.) If you're feeling especially brave, you might even be able to explain your goals and get them on board!

  2. Don't get discouraged. You can keep exercising and choosing healthy foods, even if your family isn't 100% keen on the idea. Show them you're serious, and they'll be more likely to support you (by learning to cook healthful food or budgeting to purchase some workout equipment).

  3. Don't feel guilty. If you're the only person in your family who's trying to change, that's okay. Maybe you'll serve as a role model for them. Your commitment to exercise and healthy eating will positively influence those around you. Wanting to change your body and your life is not a judgment on your family's eating or exercise habits. It's about making your own life better. In this case, it's okay to be selfish.

  4. Do drop hints. If you're not ready to talk to your family about your weight-loss plan, then just start bringing up the idea of making small changes. Forgo the popcorn when you go the movies with your husband. If he asks, tell him you're full from lunch or dinner. Ask your wife to buy low-fat yogurt, carrots or skim milk. If she asks why, say you just like those foods. Tell your teens you're going for a walk, and if they ask, just say you need some air.

  5. Do start small. Skip the cheese and mayo on your burger, have fewer french fries, and get a single scoop of ice cream instead of two. Grab an apple instead of chips; have water instead of soda. These small steps will make a big difference—and your family might soon notice how healthy you look and happy you are.

  6. Don't keep it to yourself. You may feel embarrassed about exercising or choosing healthier foods, but there is no reason to be. In fact, you can be an example to others, or even enlist your friends and family to help you reach your goals. Soon enough, you'll feel ready to share your goals with your family and friends.

  7. Don't get carried away. As a parent, you have a responsibility to be a good role model to your children. If you are constantly on crash diets or relying on unhealthy methods to lose weight, your children will believe that's the way to get healthy. When they see you give up on your "diet" and revert to your old habits, they'll think losing weight is a hopeless cause. Tell them you want to be "sensible" and "responsible" about exercise and food. Then show them you can stick with a plan.

  8. Do write it down. If you don't feel comfortable talking to your family, try writing down your feelings. Whether it's via e-mail, instant messenger or a handwritten letter, you can still communicate your goals to your family. If you want to face your family in person, try making an outline or jotting down a few notes. It will make it easier for you to stay on topic and deliver all your key points.

Once again, congratulations on your commitment to improving your life. Your family wants what's best for you, and you'll likely find out that they're willing to help you reach your goals. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and go ask your family if they have a few minutes to chat.

12-Week New Year, New You Body Transformation Challenge

How do you get to Greece? A man once traveling to ancient Greece stopped to ask a philosopher for directions. The philosopher replied, “The way to get to Greece is to make sure that every step of your journey takes you in that direction.” For your life, where do you want to “travel” in 2010? What “steps” do you plan to take to get you to your “destination”? If you don’t have an answer, it’s likely that you don’t have a plan. Without a plan, it’s likely that your 2010 is going to look a lot like your 2009. Depending on your current situation, that can be good… or bad.

Take a moment to vividly picture your ideal body… Have you lost 20, 30 or more pounds? What are the dimensions of your waist, hips, and thighs? What size clothes are you wearing? How do those brand new “skinny” jeans look on you? How great does it feel to be strong and energized as the new you? How about your new feeling of confidence having achieved a stronger, leaner, healthier you? What about the compliments that you get from your loved ones and significant other? Is turning this beautiful picture into a reality something that you would like to accomplish in 2010?

Let's face it: Everyone gets stressed occasionally. Whether it's a small event or a major life change that triggers your stress response, there are several simple ways to cope with the pressures that you may encounter from day to day. Use these ideas to start busting stress in no time!

  • Talk a walk. Walking is a great way to clear your head and to get in a healthy dose of aerobic exercise at the same time! Leave your worries behind and focus on the fresh air for a little while.

  • Call a friend. Contact someone who has a way of putting you at ease. Even if you only talk to him or her for a few minutes, that short interaction can have a world of impact and help you see things with a clearer perspective.

  • Write in a journal. Venting is a healthy way to get rid of unwanted stress. Your journal is a great outlet because you don't have to worry what others may think or say about your feelings. Once you're finished writing, at least some of the weight will be lifted from your shoulders and your thoughts will be less clouded.

  • Play a game. Board games make you smile, engage you in fun rivalry with others, and help you get your mind off of your worries. Pull out some old favorites like Candy Land, Connect Four, or Twister for some laughs.

  • Work up a sweat. Exercising is a great way to clear your mind and re-focus your energy. Imagine the stress leaving through your pores as you exercise, and take a hot shower afterward to further melt away stress.

  • Plan something fun. Is there an outing or adventure you've always wanted to do? Plan a dinner with friends or a weekend getaway. Not only will it make you push stress to the back burner, but you get to do something nice for yourself, too!

  • Take a hot bath. Taking a long bath slows down both your mind and body and melts away anxiety. Go all out with suds, music, and candles if you want! By the time you dry off, you’ll feel refreshed and energized.
